National Yacht Club urges sailors to oppose massive cruiser berth

The National Yacht Club has urged sailors to act urgently to help save Dun Laoghaire Harbour, in the face of a proposal for a 435m cruise ship berth. The club says in an appeal on its website:

“Now is your opportunity to lodge your submission on the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company application to An Bord Pleanála for a €21m Large Cruise Ship Berth in the middle of the harbour. This cruise ship berth will be 435m in length… permanently dividing the harbour’s sailing area in two and forming a significant barrier to sailing in the harbour.”

A picture gallery at the end of the article includes extensive illustrations showing the true scale of the berth and of the ships it would accommodate.

The application documentation is available here. The deadline for submission to the planning board is August 27th.
