Visiting  helmsman Charles Apthorpe from Hayling Island Sailing Club, crewed by Alan Green of the National Yacht Club, picked up the Flying Fiftteen East Coast Championship at the weekend., writes Ronan Beirne. Second overall were Ben & Mary Jane Mulligan, with Strangford Lough's Brian McKee & Steve Martin third.


Apthorpe and Green are Eastern Champions for 2012

Two wins in three races gave victory to Charles Apthorpe and Alan Green in the Eastern Championship, held at the National Yacht Club over the weekend of October 6 & 7. Ben and Mary Jane Mulligan took second, ahead of Brian McKee and Stephen Martin, with sailing cancelled on day two due to lack of wind.

Dumpleton, Green win in Mallorca

National YC Dun Laoghaire sailor Ken Dumpleton, sailing IRL 3753 Koonjog, with Alan Green crewing, won Mallorca's Tropheo Australia on the weeekend of 22nd and 23rd September.


McKee, Martin take western honours

BRIAN McKee and Stephen Martin deservedly walked away with the major honours at the West of Ireland Flying Fifteen Championships at a blustery Carrickfergus over the weekend September 15-16, writes Marcus Crichton.

The Strangford Lough Yacht Club duo, who have been knocking on the door all season, held off a late charge on Sunday afternoon by Killyleagh pair Andrew McCleery and Colin Dougan,  to take the title by a single point.


Green sails to third in Europeans

Dun Laoghaire sailor Alan Green, crewing with Charles Apthorp, took third place overall at the European Championship at Fraglia vela Riva.  

NYC clubmates John Lavery and David O'Brien finished fifth, after leading in the early stages of the event. Overall winners after nine races were Greg Wells and Richard Rigg of Hayling Island Sailing Club.
