Ian Mathews and Keith Poole of NYC sailed to the narrowest of victories over visiting ace Charles Apthorp with Alan Green on board, over the two days of the Kia East Coast Championship at the weekend. Both teams finished on 11 points after discard, with Killyleagh’s Andrew McCleery and Colin Dougan agonisingly close behind on 12.
The event, hosted by the National with the help of a superb team of volunteers from all parts of the club, led by Jack Roy, attracted 33 boats in all, with the tightly competitive quality of racing this one-design class showing through in the results sheet.
